Can I play an upper year student or adult character?

You may, after you accumulate more experience on the site. All new players must start by creating and playing with a First Year student character. As they complete threads successfully, submit "homework" assignments in their favorite subject classrooms, and participate in Forum activities, they will gain experience points which will allow them to "level up" their current characters to higher grade levels (with more powers), or to create new upper year or adult characters to use. Community members recognized by staff and other players for their contributions (via likes, badges, community nominations, etc.) will be given the opportunity to earn positions like "Head Boy/Girl," "Quidditch Captain,""Professor of Defence against the Dark Arts," or an Admin or Moderator designations.

When needed, you may create and interact with unnamed Hogwarts staff, house elves, magical creatures, and subject professors in your posts but you may not write for a named player character who actually exists - they must respond and do so.
